16 Personalities:

I got the personality that I got was Campaigner ENFP-T. I agree with the results that I got because they show the struggle to balance between being a hard worker who is organized, and following my dreams and my ambitions. The trait the impressed me the most from the assignment was the “deep-seated desire to make the world a better place”. The test impressed me with its accuracy and details that describe me very well.

Letter To Future IB Students

Dear future IB photography students, prepare to embark on the best class in your life. I came into this class with zero experience in photography only because it was a requirement for the diploma and I have learned so much over the past two semesters. My favorite assignment was the process portfolio where you make a PowerPoint presentation explaining your process for various assignments. Following right behind was the video at the end of the semester with your best work.

This class will be more than just photos. It will be analyzing art, knowing how to work a camera, screen printing light painting, mixed media and so much more. You will conquer the deepest darkest secrets of adobe. Photoshop, Lightroom, Express, name it and you will know it. My recommendation is to learn to use Adobe in your everyday school activities, even if it isn’t for this class. (They are better than PowerPoint and it makes your life easier.)

My biggest piece of advice is to finish your photography assignments FIRST. It is easy to forget about them especially if you have a large IB coursework. Prioritize finishing the photo assignments quickly, and you won’t have to worry about failing. Most importantly enjoy the class, these opportunities are limited, learn to express yourself creatively!

Social Issue Poster: Clean Air

Written Portion:

For this assignment, I really wanted to shine light on an issue that is big in the community in which many of my friends, family, and peers live in, Fontana California. Fontana used to be an agricultural city, but after World War 2, it turned into a primarily industrial city. This was good for the economic state of the city but as time passes, local politicians have become greedy and have put money before the people. Because of this, warehouses have invaded the city greatly affecting the air quality of the surrounding neighborhoods. I feel the way I do because I want to be an environmental engineer. The root of my dream career streams from the impact that these warehouses have. They pollute the air, increase traffic, and drive people that were already living there, out. My art is not meant to offend, this is reality. Big corporate greed has led to air quality in Fontana that is safe to breath, but not safe enough to do any physical activity in. As a runner this affects me, this affects my teammates, this affects my dad who works in manual labor outside where the air purifiers cannot reach. I do not see for the other side of this argument, safer engineering of buildings is necessary for the safety of the people. This does not include planting trees and praying that will purify the air from the 50 million square feet of Fontana that is covered by warehouses. Protect Our Clean Air. Bring back sustainability regulations. Put the people first.

Surrealism

This surrealism art is inspired by the parallels between past extinctions and our present climate crisis.

For starters, I am going to analyze Raise your Voice (2010) by Chris Jordan

Chris Jordan is an artist who captures the dangers and effects of mass consumption, pollution, and other environmental issues. The art piece shows the image of a bird that has passed away. Inside of its corpse, instead of there being guts, there it plastic. In addition, the piece is named Raise your Voice. I believe that Jordan is sending a message about plastic waste and pollution and its deadly effects on everything around.

Questions

  1. What are aperture, shutter speed and ISO?
    1. Aperture is the size of the opening of the lens. Shutter speed is how fast the shutter opens and closes. ISO is the camera’s light sensitivity.
  2.  When would you need to change your ISO?
    1. You would need to change the ISO when the exposure isn’t right. You would need to lower the ISO when you are in a bright setting and raise it when in a dark room.
  3. What is aperture and shutter priority settings?
    1. Aperture priority settings are when either you set the aperture, and the camera automatically does the rest or vice versa with shutter speed.
  4.  What are AF modes how do you change them?
    1. AF modes control how the camera focuses, ex: as the subjects move. You can change it through the camera’s menu.
  5. Why do your need to meter the light to get the right exposure?
    1. You need to meter the lights so that you get the right exposure in the picture.
  6. What is the difference between a normal, wide angle and telephoto lens?
    1. Normal lens shows the perspective that can be seen to the human eye. Wide angle fits more into the picture and exaggerates the distance. Telephoto lens zooms in on a landscape in the distance.
  7. What is white balance and why would you need to change it?
    1. The white balance adjusts to the color temperature of the atmosphere. It is important because it makes sure that white actually shows as white in the picture.
  8. What is depth of field and what is the difference between shallow and good?
    1. The depth of field is how much of the picture is focused. The difference between shallow and deep is that shallow focuses only on a small part of the picture while deep has the whole camera focused.
  9. What are drive modes and metering modes?
    1. Drive modes control how many pictures you take when pressing the shutter and metering modes controls how the camera recognizes the light.
  10. What is exposure compensation?
    1. Exposure compensation lets you know whether your camera is correct when you want to make the image brighter or darker.

Simulator Reflection:

From using the simulator, I was able to better understand all the terminology that we had went through in class. ISO was difficult to understand, but by using the simulator and putting it to work, I understood how it is used in photography to ensure that the exposure is correct in the picture. In addition, I was able to explore different depth of fields. I learned and was able to visually see the different modes in action. How a deep depth of field is very sharp compared to a shallow depth of field.
